  • Embarrassing Problems– advice on health problems that are difficult or embarrassing to discuss.
  • The Mix– a non-judgemental site run by charity YouthNet UK, providing various information, including drugs, alcohol, sexual health, the law, employment and finances.
  • Youth Information– the National Youth Agency’s online site for young people.
  • Thinkuknow?– staying safe online. Advice for 11 to 16 year olds.

Housing and homelessness

  • Housing advice – young people– our advice for young people.
  • Shelter– details of housing initiatives run by this charity, also with policy and news about homelessness.
  • YMCA– Young Men’s Christian Association – site of the largest provider of safe, secure and affordable supported housing for young people.
  • Foyer Federation– large network of local services to support young homeless people with training and accommodation.

Mental health

  • Young Minds– young minds website offers information to young people about mental health and emotional wellbeing.
  • MIND– the national information line is 08457 660 163 is available from 9.15am to 5.15pm Monday to Friday. Our local help line number is 01332 772300.
  • Sane– Saneline is a national out-of-hours telephone help line offering emotional support and information for people affected by mental health problems. Call 0845 767 8000.
  • Rethink– Rethink works to help everyone affected by severe mental illness recover a better quality of life. Call 0845 456 0455.
  • Papyrus– prevention of young suicide. Call 08000 68 41 41.

Sexual health

  • R U Thinking?– a website especially for under 18s. The website gives information on contraception, sex and relationships. It allows you to search for services anywhere in the UK. The helpline is 0800 28 29 30.
  • Family Planning Association– enabling people to make informed choices about sex. Call 0845 122 8690.
  • Brook– provides free confidential sexual health advice and services specifically for young people under 25. Helpline 0800 0185 023.
  • British Pregnancy Advisory Service– Britain’s main provider of abortion services and consultation, also providing contraception.
  • The National Chlamydia Screening Programme– find your local free service.

Sexuality

  • Stonewall– lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender equality organisation.
  • Derbyshire LGBT+– Derbyshire LGBT+ is a voluntary agency offering free confidential advice, information and supportive listening for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, including their families and friends.
